WANTED: Good books to read!

Like most avid readers, I am perpetually on the hunt for good books to read. I have read so many excellent books recently (The Help, Shanghai Girls, The Book Thief, World Without End...) that I feel I've become something of a book snob. If I pick up a book that's just *average*, I simply do not have the patience to stick with it. Once again, thanks to Matthew, I've discovered "Shelfari" for my blog, so I can put up my favorite books as well as what I'm reading now. The next two books in line for me to read are Bless Your Heart, Tramp: and Other Southern Endearments, by Celia Rivenbank (also thanks to Matthew)-- (and click the link to read it for free on Google Books!) I also have a sample on my Kindle of Firefly Lane by Kristen Hannah, which Stella highly recommended.

If you have any books you've loved recently I hope that you will share them! Post it as a comment for all to see or shoot me an e-mail and I'll post it for you.

Happy Reading!

  1. I officially started reading "Bless Your Heart, Tramp" this morning. I got about 2 lines in and called my mama to read some of it over the phone to her. We got to giggling and pretty soon were laughing so hard neither of us could speak. Here's a few excerpts of what turned our tickle boxes over...

"Every now and again a non-native will ask me what's so special about being a Southerner.
    Well, just everything is all."

"Southerners are obsessed with large reptiles, quality pine straw, and oddly shaped vegetables."

"Southern women live by a simple set of rules that keeps chaos at bay:
    - Never wear sweatpants in public - or private
    - Always keep a "funeral casserole" in the
    freezor
    - Never use a toothpick in the K&W parking lot
because, sure as you do, somebody's going to
remember you were the yam queen back in '75
and they'll talk about how you've just let
    yourself go."

"We don't just say we like collard greens, we say that we've eaten so many we have to wear kerosene rags on our ankles just to keep the cutworms off."

... And that's just from the preface. This promises NOT to be one of the aforementioned *average* books!

  2. Have you read The Time Traveler's Wife? That is one of my all-time favorites!
